YOUNG AFRICAN LEADERS ASSEMBLY (YALA) GENERAL MEETING HELD ON 7TH JUNE,2017 AT 3:00PM IN THE ONLINE WHATSAPP GROUP PLATFORM

MIN 1/1stGM/2017: COMMUNICATION FROM THE PRESIDENT

• The Honourable President first welcomed fellow leaders who were online and ready for the meeting. He went further to post notifications of inviting our fellows to the platform.

• He then posted the topic of discussion within the meeting which was; "The Youths and non-active participation/ non- challant attitude in politics."

• Within the platform, there was a member who posted nude photos and links. So the President informed the Honourable members that the Administrators had removed that member from the group.

• He went on to direct members to check the group status, if one finds themselves an Administrator, then they were expected to add other vibrant youth leaders within and outside their country.

• The Honourable President moved further posting a notification reminding the general house that at the end of the meeting, there will be the official presentation of the list of our "Board of Directors" by 6:00PM. He requested members to inform others.

• He then declared the discussion open and invited comments with the following assertion;  Why are African youths not actively participating in politics? Can it be that the people in government don't encourage youth participation, by not making politics interesting to our youths? What is your view ?

MIN 2/ 1stGM/2017: TOPICAL DISCUSSION

• A member (+233501384495) started by asserting that we have a solid system that puts elders first for leadership. If youth want to be taken seriously in leadership, we have to prove ourselves. He added that a good percentage of youth of Africa who go into politics are even more corrupt.

• Another member(+256700457011) expressed his concern about the disunity among the youth to fight the old cadre men and women occupying big offices. He added in the financial constraints and disability of youth since politics, leadership and money are like three cooking stones; once money is absent, the others may not thrive effectively..Lack of gap left to cater for the youth to get involved since those in offices don't think of swallowing humble pie to allow youth to take over.

• He also went on to criticise the political parties which don't stipulate adequate posts for the youth on the National Executive Committees (NEC).Corruption among the vision less youth was another issue raised by the member. He finally asserted that the youth haven't been fully and adequately availed space to get involved in politics.

• There came in another Honourable Member (+2348166347411) who first argued that politics encompasses experience, maturity and flexibility in approaches to issues, situations and people. He went on to submit that the youth are still not ready ideologically and seriously. He then requested for a clarification on these questions; What can youth do differently in politics? Do we trust ourselves to be capable enough to succeed? Will youth support fellow youth who contest against an aged? What category of youth do we want in power?

• The Honourable President commended the members for their submissions so far at that moment. He elaborated on the problem we(youths) are having i.e some selfish corrupted young persons are always selected through favouritism as youth representatives by some politicians just to use them against the youth fold.

• He also counteracted a member's submission that youths are not trying to push elders out of politics, but the youth are fighting so that these old politicians in the system create gap for them to get involved in African politics. All our past leaders started as youths, the determined youths are to be involved in politics to restructure the system so as to fight corruption.

• (+256700457011) also argued that when the youth are within the leadership of the country, they can represent and echo the views of the youth on national level since they have knowledge of problems the youth experience. He also advised youth to strive hard to earn some money to use in the political process such that they don't face any hindrances.

• Another member (+233245719225) submitted that there are so many youth who have ideas but not given chance even at the lowest rank because after all these grown up men still feed their families with nation's money.

• The President then notified members members to be ready to receive the list of our "Board of Directors" for deliberation, possible amendments and official endorsement.

MIN 3/1stGM/2017: PRESENTATION OF LIST OF BOARD OF DIRECTORS

• The Honourable President posted the list of the Board of directors on the platform and declared it open for deliberation, scrutiny, criticism, correction and possible amendments.
NB: The list of the Board of directors is contained in MIN 4/1stGM/2017.

• The President recommended the house to first adopt the list as a working/tentative document before deliberating on it. He then requested those in support of the motion of adoption of the list, to raise their hands and say hi. One turned up.

• He also called upon others to support the motion and he directed the Secretary and our SA and SSA to start off their work immediately by keeping some written records down because of the soonest face-to-face meeting to come in Nigeria and then Ghana.

• A member (+25670457011) inquired to know who the Secretary was. It was at this point that the President moved a motion of appointing Hon. Kasozi Shafil as our acting Secretary General till our election of Executive members. He went further to call for support of this appointment. He therefore finally appointed Hon. Kasozi Shafil from Uganda as the Acting Secretary General if YALA.
