Goodluck Jonathan, the former president of Nigeria, stated that the #EndSARS protests seek to advance Nigeria as a place where all can live out their full potential, added that no bloods needs to be spilled.

Jonathan who stated that the protests seek to advance Nigeria as a place where all can live out their full potential added that no blood needs to be spilled.

In his own words, he stated;

No Nigerian blood needs to be spilled or life lost during a peaceful protest that seeks to advance our country.

We may hold different views on national issues, but there is no doubt that most people desire the same thing for Nigeria: a place where we can all live out the full potential of our God-given abilities. I implore everyone to exercise restraint as we walk through these challenging times.

Anambtra Cargo Airport Will Grow State Economy – Obiano

Ahead of the April 2021 proposed opening of Anambra International Cargo Airport, the Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano, has expressed confidence that the state is not in lack of the financial resources to complete the airport.

Speaking during his visit to the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, Governor Obiano, also revealed that when completed, the airport will have the second-longest runway in Nigeria, after the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos.

According to him, the airport is being built with the best available materials, with a guaranteed lifespan of one hundred years.

On why he embarked on the airport project, the Governor said the airport will help grow the economy of the state and its environs.

He said the airport is just a few kilometres from Onitsha town, the economic nerve centre of the South-East Region adding that it is strategically located and a worthwhile investment.
The governor noted that the construction of the airport has been guided by recommendations and guidelines of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) as it hopes to meet the best international standards.

On his part, the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, commended the Anambra State government for embarking on the cargo airport project which he said will positively impact on the economic development of the state and the South East region as a whole.

He advised the Governor to sustain the ongoing collaboration with the regulatory authorities to ensure that all regulations and guidelines for the construction and operation of airports are met.

Peter Obi, a former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Vice Presidential candidate, and former Senator, Ben Murray-Bruce, have reacted to the selection of Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as two final candidates in the race to lead the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Lasgidi Reporters had reported that WTO members on Wednesday selected two final candidates for the final round.

They are: Nigeria’s Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala and South Korea’s Yoo Myung-hee.

With the two women advancing to the final round of the selection process, the WTO will likely have the first female director-general in its 25-year history.

Reacting, Ben Bruce and Peter Obi congratulated Okonjo-Iweala who served as Nigeria’s Finance Minister for making it into the finals.

Ben Bruce wrote, “I congratulate my sister, @NOIweala on making it into the final two amongst contenders to lead the WTO.”

President Muhammadu Buhari says only federal workers that have been captured by the Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System (IPPIS) platform will continue to receive salaries.

Buhari said this when he presented the 2021 budget of N13.08trillion to the joint session of the National Assembly in Abuja on Thursday.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), currently on industrial action, has vowed never to key into the IPPIS platform, as demanded by the government.

ASUU had since claimed to have developed an alternative salary platform for University workers.

ASUU National President, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, said that the union’s ongoing strike would continue in spite of government’s decision to reopen schools shutdown due to COVID-19 pandemic.

“We started our industrial action before the outbreak of coronavirus disease in the country.

“All the issues we raised are yet to be addressed. The government is free to open its schools, just like our members are also entitled to their dues.

“As we speak, our members are being owed between three to six months of salaries. The government’s so-called fund saving platform, the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System is a colossal failure.

“Apart from that, the government is yet to take any step to revitalise the education sector among others,” he said.

However, Buhari, who insisted that all federal workers must enrol into the IPPIS platform, said the directive was meant to check fraud including payment of salaries to non-existent personnel as well unauthorised allowances.

Buhari also directed all Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure that they obtain necessary approvals before embarking on fresh recruitment.

He warned that any breach of the directive would be severely sanctioned.

Buhari said that the Ministry of Education’s capital allocation had been increased by 65 per cent to improve the education of Nigerian children.

The president revealed that funds had been provided for the provision of scholarship to Nigerian students at home and abroad.

“We have provided funds for the upgrade of security and other infrastructure facilities in our Unity Colleges nationwide.

“To improve access to education, we have made provision for the establishment of five new Federal Science and Technical Colleges.

“We have also provided for the payment of allowances to 5,000 teachers under the Federal Teachers Scheme,’’ he added.
