DailypostJan 19, 2021Read original

The Federal Government has extended the deadline for Nigerians to register and link their National Identification Number (NIN) to their SIM cards before February 9, 2021.

This information was posted on the official Twitter handle of the NIMC.

The NIMC had initially given a January 19 deadline for those with NIN and February 9 for those without NIN.

The tweet reads: “All Nigerians and legal residents are advised to enroll for their national identification number (NIN) and link them before February 9th, 2021.

Enroll for your national identification NUMBER (NIN) today!!!

“Please remember, NIN enrollment is FREE.”

Earlier on Tuesday, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) released a statement signed by its Director of Public Affairs, Dr. Ikechukwu Adinde.
Adinde said at the end of a review meeting on January 18, 2021, the Technical Implementation Committee reported significant progress in the ongoing NIN-SIM linkage exercise.

A total of 47.8 million NINs have been received by the mobile operators, at an average of three to four SIMs per subscriber.

Soldier to die by Firing Squad for Killing Lieutenant

Soldier to die by firing squad for killing Lieutenant
SunnewsonlineJan 13, 2021Read original

Amilitary court martial, yesterday, said a soldier, Azunna Maduabuchi, must die by firing squad for killing his superior.
Maduabuchi was said to have shot Lieutenant Babakaka Ngorgi dead in June 2020, in Maiduguri, Bornu State, after an argument over welfare pass.

He was charged with murder. The same panel also tried and sentenced four other soldiers to prison over manslaughter.

Maduabuchi had in July 2020 reportedly opened fire on Lieutenant Babankaka Ngorgi, killing him instantly.

The trial that led to the conviction of the condemned did not reveal if the soldier had any personal grudges with the officer he killed.Maduabuchi, a private soldier, pleaded guilty but argued that his action was accidental.

But PREMIUM TIMES was informed by inside military sources that the condemned soldier had once gone on AWOL, which led to the stoppage of his salary for about six months.

The source said the soldier, who was serving at the 202-battalion in Bama, pleaded with the late Lieutenant Ngorgi, who was his Adjutant, to allow him travel to the state capital to sort out his salary issues, but his requests were repeatedly denied.

It was not certain if it was the issue that pitched the condemned soldier against the deceased officer.

How to retrieve my NIN Number?
Could it be that you have forgotten your NIN, or you don’t remember where you kept your NIN slip?

Not to worry, NIMC’s USSD service enables you to retrieve your NIN conveniently using your mobile phone.

To use this service, simply go through the following steps:

Step 1: Dial *346#

Step 2: From the options displayed, select “NIN Retrieval”, by typing in ‘1’.

Note: you must be using the same phone number you enrolled with for your NIN.
Also, using this service attracts a fee of NGN 20 (twenty naira), which will be deducted from your mobile number’s credit balance.

Meanwhile, The Federal Government has ordered all network providers to cancel the NGN20 retrieval charges for the retrieval of the National Identification Number (NIN) with immediate effect.

Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami gave the order in a statement issued on Friday, 18 December 2020. The minister says the government wants everyone to be able to use the service and not to be deterred because of the charge.

How to retrieve my NIN number online
At the moment, you cannot retrieve your NIN online as the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) website is offline. The only way you can retrieve your NIN s by using the shortcode *346#. The shortcode works only with the mobile number registered to the NIN. If you have lost the number, you can either do a welcome back for your SIM or visit the nearest NIMC office to renew your NIN card.

What if I don’t have a national identification number, how can I get a NIN? Don’t worry, we will explain the process to get a NIN number in the following sections.

What is NIMC?
National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) is the legal body established by the NIMC Act No. 23 of 2007 with the mandate to establish, own, operate, maintain and manage the National Identity Database in Nigeria, register persons covered by the Act, assign a Unique National Identification Number (NIN) and issue General Multi-Purpose Cards (GMPC) to those who are citizens of Nigeria as well as others legally residing within the country.

What is the National Identification Number (NIN)?
NIN is a set of digits assigned to an individual, by The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC), upon successful enrolment.

Enrolment consists of the recording of an individual’s demographic data and capture of the ten (10) fingerprints, head-to-shoulder facial picture and digital signature.

Your National Identification Number (NIN) is used to tie together all records about you – demographic data, fingerprints, head-to-shoulder facial picture, other biometric data and a digital signature – in the National Identity Database making it relatively easy to confirm and verify your identity when you engage in travels and transactions.

This crucial feature of the NIN makes it key for all citizens (home and abroad) as well as legal residents of Nigeria to endeavour to obtain their unique NINs as soon as they can.

What is the importance of NIN?
The National Identification Number (NIN) is important because:

1. It is used for retrieving your captured information from the National Identity Database

2. Your matching information associated with your NIN can be used to verify that you are really who you say you are.

3. It helps provide accurate records about actual living/dead persons in every region of the country

4. It helps keep track of actual transactions as well as the movement of people within and out of the country

5. It helps confirm which individuals are in actual need of particular Government services, e.g. age and retirement confirmation for pensioners.

How to register for NIN?
Pre-enrollment of NIN
The pre-enrollment process of NIN is quite simple and straightforward as it can be called the “do it yourself whenever and wherever you are” process of enrollment. However, the NIMC website is down currently and so you will not be able to complete this part online. The downside is that you will need to complete the pre-enrollment form offline rather than online.

Assuming the NIMC (www.nimc.gov.ng) website is up, for the enrollment process, visit the pre-enrolment portal (https://penrol.nimc.gov.ng/), and complete your data in block letters. Then, print out a summary sheet that has a 2D Barcode

Note: Online Pre-Enrolment is an initial step in the enrolment process. The enrolment is only completed after the applicant gets his or her biometric data (fingerprints, headshot photograph and signature) captured and processed by an Enrolment Officer at any NIMC Enrolment Centre.

Since the online portal is not functional at the moment, you can register in any NIMC Enrolment Centre (ERC) close to you.

You will need a valid id card such as a driver’s licence international passport. If you don’t have any of these, you will need a letter of identification from your local government.

How can I confirm my National Identification Number?
After enrolling for your NIN, a transaction slip is issued. You will then be informed when you can come for the collection of your NIN.

A second slip called the National Identification Number (NIN) Slip is issued when you collect your NIN.

The NIN Slip has your 11 Digit Number at the top left corner, second row.

How many times can I enrol for a National Identification Number?
Enrollment for the NIN is once in a lifetime. After you have enrolled for your National Identification Number, and it is presented to you, the Automated Biometric Information System (ABIS) will store all your information supplied.

Any other attempt to enrol again by the same person will be detected and this a punishable offence by law.

Once a NIN is assigned to an individual, it can never be reassigned, given or used by another person. This makes the number unique to individuals.

Re-Issuance of National Identification Number Slips
The NIN Slip can be re-issued in the case of the following:

Loss

Urgent Notice!!!, Nota Bene :Your Watsapp Account will Be Deleted If You Don't Agree To Be Terms By 8 February

Your WhatsApp Account Will Be Deleted If You Don't Agree To New Terms By 8 February
LadbibleJan 6, 2021Read original
WhatsApp users have noticed that the messaging app will be changing its privacy policy and if people don't agree they will lose access to their accounts.

The app, which is owned by Facebook, has two billion active users, many of which have already had a pop-up message asking them to share their data with Facebook.

Mark Zuckerburg who owns both WhatsApp and Facebook, as well as Instagram, is hoping to merge all three brands at some point.

The notification states that failure to agree with the changes by 8 February will result in the user's account being deleted.

The message gives the user a chance to either click 'agree' or 'not now' - but does not let them decline the changes.

In the small print, it states that the cut-off date for agreeing to the terms is 8 February - any later and your account will be deleted.

LADbible has contacted WhatsApp for comment.

Meanwhile, Apple has revealed the ways in which WhatsApp tracks the data of users and stores some pieces of detail about users around the world .
We've all suspected - and known - for ages that our mobile devices are checking up on what we do.
However, WhatsApp has made a point of stating over the years that they are the most secure messaging app going.

Also, it's worth assuming that all apps are mining your personal data in some shape or form.

WhatsApp tells you about what personal data they keep on you in the terms and conditions that you were supposed to read when you signed up, but who has the time to do that, right?

Now, the folks behind the iPhone - and crucially iMessage - have shone a light on the information apps are actually grabbing from you.

On 14 December last year, Apple introduced new privacy labels that explain what data every app in the App Store is harvesting from you.

When you look up an app, a label is shown that tells you exactly what data it will collect. This includes Apple's own products.

According to that, WhatsApp takes info such as contacts and location from you.

It could also get hold of your email address, financial information, phone number, and user content. That could all be linked to your identity.

Before Apple's scheme was rolled out, WhatsApp criticised it for being too vague.

The company said it doesn't tell the full story and isn't representative of how far the developers have gone to ensure that personal information is protected.

It said: "While providing people with easy to read information is a good start we believe it's important people can compare these privacy nutrition labels from apps they download with apps that come pre-installed, like iMessage."

The directive was given b y the Minister of Power, Mamman Saleh on Thursday.Mr Saleh directed the NERC to inform all DISCOs to suspend the implementation of the duly performed minor review (which adjusted tariffs between N2/kWh and N4/kWh) until the conclusion of the Joint Ad-Hoc Committee’s work at the end of January 2021.The new adjustment in the electricity has elicited condemnations from all walks of life, especially the organised labour, who described it as “another breach of trust.”Although NERC had on Tuesday denied any increment, saying it did not approve such. It however explained further that rather than increment, what happened is a minor adjustment to reflect the current inflation and exchange rates.

Mbaka Prophesies End Of Buhari's Regime

Mbaka Prophesies End of Buhari’s Regime
TheNationJan 2, 2021
A Catholic priest and Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministries, Enugu, Nigeria (AMEN), Rev Fr Ejike Mbaka, has prophesied the end of President Muhammadu Buhari’s regime.

This he said depends on Buhari’s ability to act fast and save his government from looming extinction.

Mbaka spoke at the 2020 edition of his popular annual December 31 Crossover Night ministration, advising the federal government to take swift moves to create jobs to prevent Nigerian youths from embarking on restiveness that may consume the regime.

The event, which held at the AMEN Arena, Enugu, was tagged, “Cornucopia of New Miracles from God”.

The fiery priest also took a swipe at the country’s lawmakers, especially members of the National Assembly (NASS).

Describing the lawmakers as “kidnappers”, he maintained that unless the Buhari administration hastened move to genuinely start taking care of the youths, that they (youths) “will rise and end the current political system”.

While noting that Nigerians were going through horrible conditions, Mbaka also cautioned state governors, ministers and all political office holders, stressing that they have alone the choice of repenting and start “doing the needful” otherwise, what awaited them would be unbearable.

His words:

“The Holy Spirit of God asked me to warn the government of the day to be very careful; to change policies and take care of the youths without politicising their (youths’) condition.

“That the government should rise and urgently create jobs and innovate opportunities that would benefit the youths of the nation because they have suffered so much.

“Don’t politicise the condition of the youths, otherwise, they will arise and end the political system.

“Should the government fail to do so as soon as possible that time is coming when the youths will rise against the government, and that any attempt to stop them will end the government?”

Mbaka, who did not specify when the lurking youth agitation would take place, however, dropped another puzzling pronouncement.

He said: “I can see a year ahead; it is not specific whether it is in 2021 that this will happen, but it is within a time in the time of life, that the anger of God will befall many people in the political circle because they have looted so much and disgraced this nation enough.

“Those who should be serving the country have looted the country dry for their personal aggrandisement, such that our children and grandchildren no longer have a future”.

He pointed out that politicians had for long busied themselves in “packing and packing the nation’s commonwealth, refusing to create wealth, but that they now turned around to tag the youths kidnappers, criminals, hoodlums and so on.

He also declared that God was angry with past and present leaders for turning Nigerian youths into beggars in other countries due to overwhelming hardship in the nation, and urged them to find a way to right their wrongs.

“They should obey the voice of God, sit together and think out how to reshape Nigeria.

“The situation in the country portends wickedness, wicked ruling in high places, in the name of legislators; they are the real kidnappers, and the anger of God is upon them.

“I know they would want to attack this message, as usual, but I warn, let nobody, whether you are a politician or a man of God, attacks this message so you do not become a victim!

“Whoever that would conspire against this message or partake in any gang-up against me or this ministry, your evil plans will turn back and befall you.

“Be warned, this is no longer the Fr Mbaka of 2020 but that of 2021,” he said, adding that, “it will be fire for fire this year; if you attack us, you will be attacked.”

“They have kidnapped the opportunities meant for the youths, kidnapped the nation’s wealth and jobs meant for the youths.

“They have kidnapped a lot of infrastructure development,”

FG Lists Fresh Conditions For SIM Replacement

NIN: FG lists fresh conditions for SIM replacement
PunchJan 2, 2021
The Federal Government has listed fresh conditions for telecommunication service subscribers to replace lost, stolen, misplaced or damaged SIM cards.

According to the Nigerian Communications Commission, subscribers must present their National Identification Numbers for their SIM cards to be replaced.

The National Identity Management Commission will also verify the National Identification Numbers presented by subscribers before Mobile Network Operators replace such SIM cards.

Telcos are also expected to adhere to other SIM replacement guidelines, according to a statement jointly signed on Friday by the Director, Public Affairs, NCC, Ikechukwu Adinde; and Head, Corporate Communication, NIMC, Kayode Adegoke.

The statement said the decision was taken by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami after he considered the report by a technical committee “charged with the operationalisation of the process to ensure an expedited linkage of all SIM Registration Records with NIN”.

The committee comprised the NCC, NIMC, the Association of Licensed Telecommunications Operators of Nigeria, and Mobile Network Operators.

The statement titled, ‘SIM Replacement Policy For The Nigerian Telecommunications Industry’, partly read, “Based on recommendations of the Technical Committee, the Honourable Minister of Communications and Digital Economy has approved a SIM Replacement Policy for subscribers whose SIMs have been lost, stolen, misplaced or damaged subject to the following conditions:

“That the subscriber present a NIN;

“That an effective verification of the NIN is carried out by NIMC; and

“That the relevant Guidelines and Regulations of NCC concerning SIM Replacement are fully adhered to.

“This policy is part of the Federal Government’s efforts to reduce the burden on subscribers and simplify the exercise. It is aimed at enabling telecommunications service users who need to replace their damaged, stolen or misplaced SIMs to re-establish access to telecom services.”

The PUNCH had earlier reported that the Federal Government through the NCC ordered telecommunications companies to deactivate telephone lines of subscribers who failed to link their phones to their National Identity Number.

Large crowd thronging the NIMC web portal for the process of obtaining their National Identity Number led to the crash of the portal last week.

Large crowds also resurfaced at NIMC centres nationwide this week after the Christmas break.
